Cautiously Optimistic

This morning when my mom was in surgery I started write a post about how this blog wouldn't become a cancer blog, but that it might be the focus of it for a while.  I talked to my mom yesterday and we talked about the possibility of a whole other diagnosis coming from the surgery.  How it might answer questions or it might give us more questions etc... I was trying to prepare myself (and my mom) for a lot more head scratching and waiting.

Then to distract myself I started thinking about what I'm going to do when I get back to Hawaii.  Besides eat 20 tacos in one night.  I was debating running some with the Boca marathon clinic even though I won't do the marathon.  But it's a good way to get my butt running again.  And would probably provide some good blogging material.  But it was something I didn't really have to commit to, I could just show up and run the workouts if I was up to it.  I started to email Raul and ask him to add me to the email group for the clinic.  And then my dad called.

After a two hour delay to get her into surgery, she came out surgery with nothing but good news.  There is no sign of cancer.  The mass in her abdomen was a non-malignant tumor.  Her lymph node biopsy was negative.  They looked around some more, took some tissue samples, looked around some more and stitched her up.  Then scratched their heads.  NED.  No Evidence of Disease.  Great news. We are waiting the full results from the biopsies of the tissue samples and are cautiously optimistic. It's possible her body beat the cancer by itself.  I've always said I come from good genes. But damn, if she kicked cancer all by herself?  I think that makes her a bad ass!

So this blog will not be a cancer blog.  And I need to put some serious thought into if I'm going to make this into a real off season where I work on my beer (and margarita) drinking or maybe use it to get a jump start on some of my goals for next season.
