Weight Control Food

Have you ever seen anything so happy about diet food?

Springer is on a diet.  She doesn't seem to mind.  It simply meant switching her dog food to one with fewer calories.  That's easy.  I'm supposed to start keeping track of how much she eats too.  I've been a bad dog mom and have free fed her.  Even though I knew she overate.  Harley was good about free feeding.  He ate more when he got more exercise.  Less when he I was lazy (and didn't exercise him as much).  Springer however will eat.  And eat.  And eat.  Wonder where she got that from?

I wish it were so easy for me.  Oh wait.  It is.  Eat food with less calories.  I sat down last night (after a day of eating really really healthy) and decided to add up my calories.  2700 total.  I was shocked.  2700-3000 is actually a good range for me because I burn 1000-1500 working out (yesterday was 1 hour run w/ intervals, 1 hour swim workout).  Plus walking the dogs, walking to class and back, etc.  But I was just surprised that all my healthy eating added up to 2700.  I was sure it was less.

Here's what I ate and the calorie count.

Breakfast:
2 cups cooked white rice-500

Snack-
Smoothie-1 pear, 1 apple, 1 frozen banana, 1 cup frozen strawberries, 1 cup water-400 calories

Lunch:
2 mozzarella cheese chicken sausages-300
1 serving hummus-150
2 carrots-100

Snack during/after class:
1 serving hummus-150
2 carrots-100
handful of dates-200
handful of almonds-200

Dinner:
4 eggs scrambled with nutritional yeast-300
2 cups applesauce-300

My breakfast was unusual yesterday (though I had the exact same thing today), I woke up craving something warm and salty (no comments guys...) but I try to get 500-600 calories.  For dinner I really really really really really wanted to order a pizza.  But I'm really really really really trying to stick to the no wheat thing again (I'm tired of planning my runs around my runs).  And also trying to cut back on dairy.  I'd already had cheese in the sausages earlier.  One meal with/serving of cheese/dairy a day is cutting back dairy... I love milk.  I LOVE cheese.  Plus, no matter how much I told myself I'd only have a couple slices of pizza, I knew I'd eat and eat and eat the whole dang thing.

In the end my diet was pretty good.  Good enough that I decided to step on the scale this morning.  I'm down five pounds from right before New Years.  On track for my two pound a week weight loss leading up to the Great Aloha Run.

Uhm.  I thought the large container was a single serving!?!

I guess I'm pretty happy with my diet food too.  These single serve hummus things are (a little) more than I expected.  I was able to squeeze two carrots worth of  hummus out of each one.  I knew how little hummus I had and didn't glob a whole lot on each bite.  The whole pack will last longer than a large thing because I won't eat a third of it in one sitting.  Which I really wouldn't do because I won't buy the large things any more.  So the single serving things were awesome.  I got hummus and I ate carrots.  My goal for today is to get three carrots out of each hummus container.  And only have one during the day.

And because I am totally addicted to the new photo ap I discovered yesterday, here are the same pictures from above done in Artista Haiku.

And don't worry I won't bore you with my daily diet and calorie count (too often).  I was just discussing it with a few people this morning (the daily texts among friends where we congratulate each other for eating good 3 days in a row... Seriously, why is it so hard to just eat right??).  And I really wanted to post more of  the cool pictures.

hmm are you eating normal size carrots rather than the mini carrots?! ;) what does the nutritional yeast do with the eggs?

Yes, normal size carrots. The little ones sort of creep me out :-)

I just like the taste of nutritional yeast. Seriously, I'll just lick my finger and put it in the bag then lick my finger clean. Then repeat. It's also a good popcorn topper. Some say it tastes like cheese. Those people haven't had cheese in a very long time. It tastes nothing like cheese, but it does taste good. Brewer's yeast is similar (and 'better' for you), but doesn't taste as good.

I am not a dieter, but I eat, okay'ish, but not all the time. I am with you. :) I am a lot like you in many ways... well besides craving something warm and salty. Have you met my BIL??? ;) LOL

I know life isn't always easy for you, and I know you probably wish you were a better version of yourself. I think you are o.k. just the way you are. :)

xoxo

p.s. I am going to hit the Brandy tonight. Go MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! :)

Have a good one. :)

The salty rice for breakfast sounds really good to me too. I'm back off wheat/gluten here as well. I just find it works better for me and the post-IM-binge pounds are falling back off. Keep up the good work!

It sucks how easily those calories add up, even with clean eating! In order for me to lose weight or not gain weight I have to consume right around 1600 calories a day while running 30-40 miles a week. Seriously, my metabolism sucks balls. When I was at my skinniest I ran roughly 40 miles a week, no weight training and ate 1200-1400 calories a day (NO cheat days). Somehow I was 40lbs less than I am now.

I love this, hummus makes me eat carrots too:) I sometimes even use the hummus with balsamic as sort of a salad dressing. LOVE IT!
You would think i would want pizza all the time in the cold north but somehow the rice with lots of lemon pepper and some olive oil and parm is how we get in our salty cravings!

Oh MAN, have you ever made your own hummus?? Awesome stuff.

How about you tell me all of the non healthy things you want to eat, and I'll just do it for you? :)

I have started buying single servings of lots of stuff...hummus, Guacamole, Nutella...maybe more expensive but I will eat less. I'm definitely in the category of healthy eater who eats too much, LOL. I started tracking my nutrition last week and it's an eye opener.

That is pretty cool that you can diet...on 3000 calories a day! Like the single serve Hummus -- have to see if we have that around here. And good luck with Doggy diet too.
